Erasmusbrug on Christmas Eve

Erasmusbrug on Christmas Eve

Christmas, Rotterdam style. The Christmas tree is displayed on the KPN building: a building covered with LEDs so it basically is a giant screen.

Golden Gate bridge

Golden Gate bridge

This was my second trip to San Francisco, but before entering the city this time from the north, I took some time to take some pictures of the Golden Gate bridge: a glaring omission from my previous trip.

Walking inside the Simpson-Reed grove

This wonder of the world literally makes one feel small. Yes, even me :-)

Seattle Public Library

Seattle Public Library

As a Dutchman, I just had to visit the public library in Seattle, designed by Rem Koolhaas. It looks very strange from the outside, and it a very special experience to walk around inside the building.

Paris: Louvre

Louvre

I spent a weekend in Paris this summer. Because I was only there for two days, I did not have time to enter the Louvre. Luckily I had a chance to see the entrance pyramid to satisfy my Da Vinci Code related curiosity. I guess I have to return some day to see the Mona Lisa.

Rhinos in Blijdorp Zoo

Rhinoceros family

I visited the local zoo Blijdorp last Sunday. The main attraction was the newly born rhinoceros called “Bertus”, born only a couple of days before.

New guitar

New guitar

After I sold my stratocaster-lookalike last year, I have been playing solely on my Ibanez ArtCore. I missed the ease of playing of the stratocaster, so I decided to get myself a new one. This time I bought a real Fender and included a case so I can transport it safely. I really like the classic sunburst finish!

Delfshaven

Delfshaven

Last Saturday I visited Delfshaven, an old part of Rotterdam that was not bombed during WW2. A lot of people are not aware of the existence of these kinds of traditional Dutch canal houses in Rotterdam.

Budapest

Budapest

I participated in a business course of Deloitte Enterprise Risk Services in Budapest. I made some pictures during the couple of hours of free time in the fully packed program. During the business course, I also saw a traditional Hungarian horse show and participated in a Trabant rally.

Rio Dulce

Rio Dulce

The Rio Dulce is a river in eastern Guatemala with mangrove vegetation, a lot of birds and some inhabitants who live in houses like this. There are no roads connecting these houses, so these people have to travel by boat. Even the children go to school by boat.

Tikal

Tikal

Tikal is a beautiful mayan archeological site in the middle of a large national park. Besides ruins, interesting flora and fauna can be found there. See more pictures of Tikal.

Palenque view

Palenque view

Palenque is another great mayan archeological site with spectacular views because of the height differences.

More pictures of the Tulum archeological site at the Caribbean coast in Mexico. Although the Maya buildings are not as impressive as the other Maya sites I have visited, the surroundings and the blue color of the Caribbean more than make up for it.

Boats on Lago de Atitlán

Boats on Lago Atitlan

Lake Atitlan is the most stunning lake I have seen so far. I was lucky to be at the lake in Panajachel around 5 p.m. with my camera. During the day, the sky gets completely overcast by water vapor clouds that erupt from the volcanos. This gives the scenery an ominous look.

All pictures I took at Lake Atitlan and it surroundings can be found on Flickr. The pictures I took the morning after look entirely different because of the sky.
